What should I do to prepare?
We strongly recommend that you shower, shave and exfoliate your skin prior to your spray tan session. Exfoliated skin helps create a more even, natural color. We carry Norvell sunless tanning prep and post products for your perfect spray tan! We provide blending cream, hair nets, nose plugs, towels, and wet wipes for your session. After your spray tan, please allow a minimum of 8 hours before showering. Your first shower should be a light rinse only.
What should I wear?
Most people tend to wear nothing as the booth is completely private. If you do choose to wear a bathing suit or any form of clothing while in the booth, please be aware that if your solution choice contains a bronzer, clothing has the slight possibility to become stained. However, the bronzers are water soluble and will come clean in the wash!
How long will my results last?
Results may vary and highly depend on your at home care of your spray tan. You can expect to see your color last between four to seven days!
Will the spray tanning turn me orange?
Absolutely not!
Why Old Spray Tans Looked Orange
In the early days, spray tans used higher concentrations of DHA (dihydroxyacetone) or lower-quality formulas. When overapplied or used on dry, unprepped skin, DHA could oxidize unevenly, creating that “orange” tone.
Why Today’s Formulas Look Natural
Modern solutions such as Norvell use:
- Balanced DHA blends that match your undertone
- Color-correcting tints (violet, green, or brown bases) to neutralize orange hues
- Added skincare ingredients like aloe, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins for an even fade
✨ How to Ensure a Perfect Result
- Exfoliate well before your appointment.
- Avoid oils or lotion on your skin that day — they can block absorption.
- Choose the right solution and level (salon attendant can recommend what is best for you)
After your Spray
Clear, Bronze, Venetian solutions: Let your tan set for at least 8 hours (overnight if possible) before being exposed to water. All swimming, showering, and exercise must be avoided during this time, as sweating can inhibit the development of your tan. Also avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session to allow the tan to develop properly on your feet. Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 8 hours. This includes tighter-fitting jeans, bras, spandex, tight blouses, and shoes/socks. Shower within 24 hours.
Venetian Rapid solution: First shower (light rinse) should be 1-3 hours after spray.
Remember: After your first shower, you may see some color wash off. This is the cosmetic bronzer found in Bronze, Venetian, and Venetian Rapid solutions. Don’t worry! This is normal. You will be left with a gorgeous tan we promise.
Maintaining your spray
Your first shower should be a warm water rinse only. Avoid applying moisturizers or deodorants until after your first shower. Pat (don’t rub) skin dry.
Do not shave for 24 hours after your treatment. After 24 hours you may also use sulfate/ paraben free body wash (Be gentle! Avoid excessive scrubbing) We urge you to avoid bar soaps and alcohol-based products, as they can strip the color of your tan.
Hydration is key! Keep your skin moisturized after your first shower and continuously until your next session.
Avoid swimming pools and salt water, as these can reduce your tan.
*A spray tan is NOT a real tan, and is therefore, not a sun protectant. You can still get sunburned. Make sure you always use sunscreen.
Your tan can last between 4-7 days depending on your before and after care.
Before and after spray tan care will determine the longevity and quality of the tan. Investing in quality skincare like our Norvell Sunless Products will extend the life of your tan!
